LET'S TALK ABOUT MONEY

We need it, but we don’t like talking about how we make it. Yet we do want to know how others make it.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to earn money or even making a point that your time has a monetary value.

First, we are never taught about financial literacy. It's a huge gap in our academic curriculums. To get a taste of what this means, this podcast episode is a good place to start (easy listening).

Second, how much do you want to earn? We tend to throw out a number but never properly think about it, let alone actually calculate how much. Have a look at this great infographic on steps to figuring out your hourly rate. Although aimed at freelancers, everyone can use it to find your numbers.

Know your number.
a) 'essential' number
b) ‘comfortable’ number
c) ‘that would be amazing’ number

By knowing these numbers you can set your targets for career progression, for business development, next step planning, and more.

Read: It's good to be more aware of the things we buy, such as how and where they are made. But perhaps we should also pay attention to who is behind these brands. Here is an example.

Watch: Blame! We all do it. What if we looked at blame differently. It could change how we connect with people.

Listen: If you haven't yet listened to S-Town, it's a must. Not as long as Serial but as captivating. The main character is fascinating and the end, well you decide.
